Cinque Terre is a seaside region along the coast of Italy. It consists of 5 small towns: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza & Monterosso.
These villages were originally linked by donkey trails (once used to transport resources between towns). While virtually unknown to tourism until the 1960’s, it is now a bustling place to visit, and is well known for its colourful buildings and gorgeous waters.
As tourism grew, newer scenic trails and a train station were built to allow more options to hop from town to town. You’ll see us hike one of these and take the train many a time…
While this IS a touristy destination, as the villages’ livelihoods now depend upon it… I still feel Cinque Terre to be a true Bucket List worthy place. It is stunning, and I can honestly say, I know of no other place quite like it.
We spent three full days here, and I loved every minute of it.
Have you been to Cinque Terre? I’d love to know which town was your favourite?
